this question is 4 my sister....
she has 4 goldfish, most of which are fantails... and she wants to know how to tell the gender of fantails, she read on a site that the "vent" is different for both genders, is this true and if so is the female's bigger or the male's...?
any other info on goldfish (sexing) would be great....
oh and no links please... :P

Phhhhh...

Telling the sex of a Goldfish is very hard. Generally yes, because females have to lay eggs. How old are they? It is easiest to tell at one year.

The vents of males are concave while the females vents come out a bit.
A better water to tell is by looking at the gills. Males' gills have white spots on them.

okay i know you said no links but this website is so succinct and clear (it even has pictures for comparison between m/f) i cant resist.
