Is there a free way to covert videos from my PC to a DVD?

Most video converters I have found costs around $40.00 and the free downloads only partially work. With the free Real Player I am able to get most videos from the web to my hard drive, but I haven't yet figured out how to get them onto a DVD. Is it possible to do without buying new software?

According to my best knowledge for DVDs you need MPEG format or coded to play. so you simply convert ur video to this format and burn them on a DVD and play.
