is there a way to update Windows XP into Win7 without loosing my files and programs?

I have Windows XP on my PC and a have a Win7 installation CD but i can't update Windows XP into Win7 . . . i get a "Unable To Upgrade" or something like that error . . .
How do i install Windows 7 and keep my files and programs?
P.S : I Have All System Requirement For Win7
