Is thinking forbidden in religion?

Are religious people allowed to think for themselves or do they have to read a book, memorize it, and only think about the things it permits them to think about?

Just a quick question I've been curious about...with much love. :->

I looked up "think" in the scriptures, here's your results. If you're bored you could look up "ponder" as well http://scriptures.lds.org/en/search?search=think&do=Search

In this section, occasionally Christians post questions talking about how upset they are because they're doubting God's existence, and I have literally seen people give answers like "Don't think! Just believe!" I REALLY wish I were making that up, but I'm not.

I doubt that anyone will answer 'yes' to your question, but I honestly think that it does go into the thought process of some people, whether they'll admit it or not.

It's not forbidden, but it does rather tend to put people off religion when they realise it's nonsensical. On that point, see the link below - it's the nearest I've ever seen to a religious leader saying that thinking is wrong.
