Ok could someone tell me if this is legal please?

I live in Fort Worth,Texas. Not sure if you needed to know that but I guess different laws different places?

We don't know if this was in the contract when we got the service since my moms husband is the one who got it before he passed away. But I am not even sure it would be legal to have a contract like this anyway.

So we pay the fee to break our contract with Dish Network to end our service. Then we get this letter in the mail,

Receiver Return Instructions:

"quote IMPORTANT: To avoid non-return charges (up to $149 per LNBF and $599 per receiver) or to receive credit for previous non-return charges, please return "all" DISH Network equipment immediately. end quote" "Use caution if using a ladder or on climbing on the roof."

The LNBF is a part that sticks out on the satellite dish.

So we have no contract with them because we are going to pay the fee tomorrow and they wanted my mom to climb up on a ladder on the roof of my house and unhook all the "electric" cables and take apart the LNBF and I guess with tools we might not have and drive to drop it off UPS. The only thing they did was send the box and offer to pay shipping...

First I think if they are going to make me climb on my roof they need to provide me with insurance and workers comp maybe even pay me. I mean you cant even send a employee on a roof legally without insurance even if he said he would do it anyway right? So how can someone make a customer climb on the roof of there house and unhook electric stuff and then drive to drop off "THEIR" stuff. Its not mine, if they want it they should come get it. Isn't this forced laber and dangerous? What is I fell and broke my back or get shocked?

If I do not do this they are going to charge me total $1,946. Thats 3 Receivers and one LNBF and I think its one LNBF... Might be more up there..

I think after we pay the contract fee we wont even have a contract with them....... So can they legally make me bring them there stuff or if it involves all this?
Also can they make me drive to drop the stuff off ups as well?
