Is underbody protection worth the extra money on a Jeep?

I purchased a new 2011 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, and of course I know that the dealership just wanted to try and make more money off me, but I am kind of concerned about the underbody of my vehicle. I would like to go off roading at some point and I live in a heavily salted area during the winter months. But is the additional $1500 for "The Protector" treatment really worth the money? Any suggestions on the best way to maintain the body of a Jeep, or someone with advice who's had one for many years who drives in similar conditions?
