Xvid is a legit (and i'd say even "common" video codec, commonly found in AVI files) ...
a windows mirror is basically a different place (website/link) to download the SAME EXACT file. This takes some of the "pressure" of a single link when everyone wants to download it ... This way they (the people downloading) do not overload the first server that contains the desired download
