for the sin of masturbating? http://www.lds.net/forums/advice-board/43181-working-bishop-advice-needed.html

Mormon morality decrees that masturbation is a sin, and so this teen girl is encouraged to discuss her 'problem' with a middle aged man (her bishop) over the course of several months.
[bishops do not have any training in counselling and are totally relying on 'the holy ghost' to guide their advice..............being a mormon bishop requires no qualifications, and is often more about who you know, than what you know]

Personally I feel that it is a sick religion that makes a perfectly natural and useful thing, a sin
I feel it is sick that a middle aged man feels the need to discuss the "sex" life of a teen girl

I want people to know about this sick religion and I want it to be shouted from the rooftops if (god forbid) this girl ever acts on her depression.

Many Christians teach their children that masturbation,a biological necessity for males, is a sin, :lick ice:driving them into states of guilt, depression and yes even suicide.Just think how much better the world would be if Christians taught that murder, most especially in war, rather than the masturbation is a sin!

In old fashion british religious private schools, teenage boys were made to wear a spiky ring around their penis so that their wouldn't get ungodly erections.

that's how you make a whole generation of idits.

All religions rely on fear and guilt to keep their followers in line. However people can always exercise choice and adopt an atheist approach if they so wish.

That's what religion does best. In order to keep people on the "right path", guilt is the weapon of choice.

Very sad story but not unusual.

why would she confess that she does this, surely it is a personal matter to her and to be kept private

Ah, religion at its finest.

What's the difference between that, and sending someone to a witch-doctor?

Nothing.

This is no surprise, and I think you will find that the Catholic church takes a similar view, though it is little discussed these days. Older generations often claimed that masturbation would make you blind, with the false idea that it would help prevent young men and women from doing such a thing. Religion of any faith is a brainwashing technique and gullible people will fall for whatever their church tells them. This girl is a victim, just as many others are within religious groups. Some people have been murdered in the name of religion because they do not fit into the ideal utopia that many fanatics feel everyone should adhere to. Morality is always the excuse, and many twist the true meaning of their religious publications to suit their own ideology. For example, gay men being murdered in the Carribean in the name of religion is the worst savagery you could imagine. Religion is responsible for more deaths than the two world wars combined. Even organised religious groups have their fanatics and cults spring up from them that only end in tragedy and tears. Sometimes I think the world is a rather sick place.
