I was in class today, and there are these girls behind me who ALWAYS talk. ALWAYS. But today, they started talking about how muslims totally freak out over drawing of Muhammad, loudly, and them saying 'oh, im just gonna draw a pic of him, muslims are so crazy, they bomb everyone' At this point i should mention that I AM muslim. They didn't know, sure, but isn't it, you know, offensive? Cause I wanted to turn around and say 'stuff that b*tch'.
But know matter what religon or race people make fun of, isn't it, you know, considered rude?
Oh, and they were talking about how so many muslims got angry over the drawing of Muhammad in the danish newspaper. But I'm pretty sure drawing a religous figure with a bomb on his head is completey offensive.

The Quran does NOT say a man can hit a women! (I think i know better than you, idiot)
where the hell did you get that?????
Men and women are equal according to the Quran, just to let you know. When men treat their wives and daughters and females in gerneral badly, its cause of CULTURE, not RELIGON
And im not violent, thanks
whatever theyre doing is wrong, ok?
@james- agreed
im NOT trying to turn this into a freakin religuos debate!
I'm so moving to Canada when I'm older. Or Turkey. Or Austrailia.

Lol. It's generally true. Muslims are violent, consider women to be one level below them..even in 2011, and a lot of them are very uptight when it comes to talking about religion (especially their religion)

Even in their Qur'an it talks about how if a woman upsets a man, he should hit her. Defend that.

Edit: That's bs. The Qu'ran does NOT say that women are equal to men. I think a lot more people would be religious if religion in general were fair- including the muslim religion.

You should have said anything, I cant stand narrow minded people like that. I'm Muslim too so I know how you feel. You can tell a teacher it will help but there are more people like that out there and you just gotta learn to ignore them.

That's terrible. I didn't hear about anything with the drawing before this, but it's all ridiculous on both sides. I know Muslims aren't anymore terrorists than anybody else, in fact a lot of stuff is blamed on them that wasn't them. Like 9-11, but I'm not gonna get into that XD

Two of my best friends are muslim, both my brothers have muslim friends, my sister... My landlord is muslim... Extremism isn't anything to do with it. There are extremists of all religions. Haha I'm kinda ranting too...

it's so rude. I'm not muslim but I'm made fun of my religion (Pentecostal Christan) Sometimes. But you shouldb't get mad at them, I know how frustrating it is, but it's your responsibility to forgive them.
@roys hater, umm, just cause someone happens to be muslim and is abused, doesnt mean it's because of their religion?
You dont know anything.

Well, back to my answer,
Hang in there, if it get really bad, talk to the teacher privately, tell her to just ask them to not talk during class. Of course it's rude to make fun of ANY religous figure. I'd be super mad too.

Yes, it's rude, but so is most protected free speech, which is a concept many Islamic nations fail to grasp, even to the point of having anti-"blasphemy" laws. Get over it. People have said worse and depicted worse about Christians and Jews, and you don't see us advocating reciprocal anti-blasphemy laws against Muslims.

By the way, the reaction of many Muslims to the Danish cartoons was not just to "get angry", as you put it---they rioted all over the world and burned down the Danish embassies in three countries. The poor cartoonist who drew Muhammed with a turban/bomb on his head has survived attempts on his life, notably from a armed Somali man looking for revenge for that cartoon. Personally I would be more offended by that violent and embarassingly primitive response than by any criticism of it by my classmates.

That is racist, and a stereotype..ish. And you should have said that! If they continue I would talk to your teacher and make the teacher tell them to stop, they probably won't listen to you..they sound snobby.

tottaly rude. i would b very offended.
my school, many many people are muslim(i live out of toronto)
and if people were talking like that,
ohmaan there woulda been a scrap.

Yes, it was very rude of them to say that. ALL religions have extremists, not just Islam.

Yes, that is really rude!!! I would never do that myself as I have been on the receiving end of it (pagan) and it has taught me to respect other religions. These girls are obviously immature idiots and I would try to ignore them if I were you. And I would also have said what you wanted to ;)

I have a lot to say about this topic, but I'll try to keep on not ranty and brief.

My best friend is muslim, head scarf and all. I never realized how much she goes through and how ignorant people are until recently when we had a sobfest about it. I have SO much respect her. And it drives me nuts when people give her rude looks, or even me weird looks because of how she looks. Ignorance is absolutely not bliss.

People put all muslims into a very small, and completely untrue, category. They think they're violent, but that is NOT the case. It's actually one of the most peaceful religions. And they actually gave women the right to vote looooong before others did. They are very accepting of women.

It's rude to talk down about any religion. Next time they say something ignorant, if you feel comfortable, say something like "that actually isn't the case, but I'd love to talk to you about my real beliefs if you would like".

Roys Hater - you clearly have not met many muslims. I have met NO muslims that supported violence, or treated women badly. As I said above, before I read what you said, the Quran supported women having the right to vote. It wasn't until the 19th amendment that women in the US had the right to vote. Women have been put on a lower level in EVERY part of society. I am absolutely not saying that is okay, I'm a proud feminist, but women have been told that we're less important than men in many cases. Yes, I'm sure there are things about women being less than equal, but I doubt that you could find sources from long ago that didn't say that men were more important than women. That's how people thought. But they still gave women much more power than others of that time did. There are extremists who are violent, as there are in EVERY religion. Hitler killed millions, wars have been started because of so many religions. Violence is always going to be an issue, but it is not only by muslims.

Yes it's rude. Now, it's your responsibility to forgive them and practice tolerance for their ignorance. You can explain why it's rude, they probably don't know. If you react negatively they are going to believe they are right.

Edit: The people that drew Muhammad in the Danish newspaper were murdered by Muslim extremists. Who cares if people got offended? We all need to be more forgiving if we want humanity to survive religion.
