ive just got a blackberry 8800 and i carnt get the bluetooth to work any ideas?

Forget what other people said because they don't know what they're saying.

Blackberry can transfer files via Bluetooth and that's what I do all the time with my Blackberry Bold and my Blackberry Curve 8900.

The only reason I can see for that is that your wireless carrier blocked the Bluetooth file transfer.

Unfortunately, this is a common practice among U.S. wireless carriers.

The bluetooth on Blackberry only allows you to connect a device - such ad wireless headphones. You cannot transmit or receive files on it.

The iPhone is the same!

EDIT - you can't on the BlackBerry Pearl. I checked with them when I bought it.

You probably need to go to the media menu

Select the sort of media you are being sent/recieved

Hit the options button

Select the send by/receive by bluetooth option

Go to the help menu and select Bluetooth Technology for instructions.

EDIT: You can ignore anyone who says you can't send/recieve via bluetooth, I received a video earlier today on mine.

to be honest, you might be able to pair it with another device, but most blackberries dont have the capability to send/recieve files. the bluetooth function on most blackberry's is just for headsets or speakerphones. i had this problem when i switched to a blackberry curve (8330) and had to put all my contacts in by hand. if you are looking to switch contacts from another blackberry or PDA style phone, you would be best at downloading the desktop device manager from http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/ . its also a good place once you have all your contacts in your phone to back it up periodically.

hope this helps
