Let's see how many people can work this one out.
I have an old ex army Johnson 40hp Outboard which has just gone back to the mechanic again after a full rebuild. The water Pump was the one part he was overly impressed with and the one part that has let us down twice since.
We have checked the impeller, housing, gaskets, key etc... and so has the mechanic. Logically it should be pumping water. The main copper extension for the water pipe is exactly 5inches as stated by our mechanic as we had to make a new one, we've had the main engine housing off and flushed it all out, connected the hose straight to the intake pipe and had water running through the whole engine, ran wire through it all etc... It's all clean. No Silt.
So, does anyone have any idea as to why this engine is not pumping water when everything is, according to our mechanic's visual inspection and our many hours of personal labour, all in perfect working order?
We're stumped and it's the first time our mechanic has ever come across anything like this in the 30yrs he's been working on engines.
