It’s about damn time. That’s what LeBron James said after winning the 2012 NBA Championship as the Miami Heat defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 5. For LeBron, who has taken a lot of criticism over the years for not being able to carry his team to the top, the wait must have felt like an eternity. But the time has arrived. LeBron James is a champion.
To make it official, LeBron had a triple-double in Game 5. In 44 minutes, LeBron had 26 points, 13 assists and 11 rebounds on 9-for-19 shooting from the field and 8-for-9 shooting from the line. Three other players on the Heat also scored at least 20 points — Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and Mike Miller — as Miami cruised to the 121-106 win.
“It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done as a basketball player. You just put a lot of hard work into it and you hope that one day it will pay off for you,” said LeBron after the game.
The Thunder came out with a lot of energy but with the Heat hitting 14-of-26 three-pointers, Oklahoma City was doomed. LeBron and his merry band of bombers were just too much.
And now, finally, LeBron James is an NBA champion.
