So what's wrong with profit? Without the innovation of industrialists and scientists you would be in the stone age.


Liberals have told me that they are not against profit and business, as long as the profit is "fair" and "honest".

So what is that? Do they want big government to tell us how much of our profits is fair?

Give me some examples of a business who obtained their profits in a way that is morally WRONG.
 
As a conservative, I'm also against companies paying people 2 dollars a day and making them work too many hours.

Some of these factory conditions are horrible as well. In the Mexico-US Border, there are many cases of cancer that are directly linked to industry. Clean that up.

Sure, in the USA, there are laws that prevent air and water pollution but most companies know that in order to safely get rid of the waste, they would need to pay money. So they decided to go to Mexico, dump the chemicals and industrial waste into the water. And then the water comes to the USA and kills our fellow Americans.

I don't really understand something. Some people say that we don't need to take care of the environment because Global Warming isn't real. Sure, it might not be real; but do you really want to drink dirty water?

You can't have one hundred percent unregulated business as well. For example, all food products in the USA have to have a nutrition label all the ingredients are listed. Do you want to know what you're buying?

And sometimes, what if they sell you stuff that are potentially harmful to your health?
 
Are you comfortable with corporations firing you because they can get cheaper labor in China? Clearly, this shows what businesses really want.
 
Employment and exchange in a free market is voluntary between all parties involved. If one did expect to benefit from an economic contract or exchange, they would not agree to it.
 
You're starting from the point of how Corporations are forced to act now.

If there were no laws regarding the fair treatment of customers you'd find all sorts of shenanigans going on very quickly. History shows this, that's why laws on things like wights and measures and honest advertising were originally put in place. Not to stifle honest business, but to prevent unscrupulous practices.
 
Cigarette companies marketing to teens and children.

Companies using lead paint in children's toys.

Fast food companies not making known the nutritional value (or at least not having the information available to a consumer who may request it.)

Child labor.

Outsourcing to China.

Profit doesn't always work for the best interests of the consumer. More often than not it does, but that's no reason to let all "business people" get away with whatever they'd like.
 
Banks selling worthless mortgages as financial paper claiming that they were sound investments.
