Before ever playing a game with the Oakland Athletics, Manny Ramirez has been released. According to reports, Ramirez had asked the A’s to release him and the team decided to oblige. Before being let go, the designated hitter had played 17 games in Triple-A in the minor leagues.

“It was an amazing experience,” Ramirez told ESPN. “I was given tremendous treatment by Oakland’s major league and Triple-A staff. I’ll always have them in my heart. I was ready to play, but Oakland didn’t have a space in its roster. I understand.”

While in the minor leagues, Ramirez showed that he could still hit. He was batting .302 with 14 RBIs in his limited action.

Coming into this season, Ramirez was forced to miss 50 games as part of a steroids suspension. Now that his suspension is over and he’s no longer employed by the Athletics, Ramirez will be looking for a place to play.

At 40 years old, his best days are clearly behind him. But does Ramirez have any more pop in his bat? I’m guessing a team will sign him to find out.
