Margaret Thatcher has died

What I really don't get is why anyone go to her funeral if they weren't directly involved with her?
I'm not as anti thatcher as some but even if I was a big supporter of her policies I still wouldn't go and watch her coffin go past.

What a load of codswallop!

At no point was I attacking his right to express a liking of Thatcher, what I was remarking upon was the poor taste of professing a love of Thatcher merely to provoke a reaction, which is implied in his admittance that what he wrote was written for lols. Furthermore I was dismissing the fallacious reasoning that because one has not invested emotionally in a subject one's position is automatically made intellectually admirable. The common theme in Crows posting in this thread has been "LOL the Anti-Thatcher brigade don't have any arguments because they are just being emotional unlike me."


Thatcher didn't leave office only for a cavalry charge of magical elves to swoop in and return the political culture to neutral, you don't create that level of change as a prime-minister without those effects -ironically- trickling down.



And the response of privatising, cutting social spending and continuing to stamp on the poor when they are the least equipped to take the beating is a continuation of Thatcherite politics. Celebrating Thatchers work is an easy way for this government to pretend that their own campaign of demonising people on benefits and the larger working class while handing vital sections of our society over to business is a positive and brave endeavour.

Crow has come in and squawked about the Anti-Thatcher lot being un-able to provide any reasoning for why they hate her and the one time he does try to back this argument up (in a thread that is 40 pages long) all he can do is quote an exasperated 19 year old that he provoked on Steam.

It's a painfully common and dishonest attempt to undermine people who care about politics. It's the same in every field, whether it's racism, sexism, welfare it's the same old schtick:

"LOL those feminists are so emotional they don't even know why they are angry"

If Crow genuinely feels indifferent then I suggest he either educates himself to the point where he is no longer so passive or stops throwing things in from the side-line to agitate people who he has no real qualms with outside of what would seem to be the fact that they care..
 
Fair enough, if that's how you feel.. I just thought it was a bit of an over reaction to what seemed like a bit of humour. I didn't think it was offensive humour, so I don't really get the fuss. I also think you're stretching a bit the characterization of CZ's contribution to the thread.

This is a personal pet peeve of mine; we already have a voting population that's getting smaller and smaller, we don't need a glorification of apathy. That and white-coffee I have very little tolerance for. :P

The problem is what that humour gets used for. It's an attempt to over-represent the hyperbolically naive and use them as a caricature of genuine political opinions.
 
Cutting social spending you say and stamping on the poor. Is that how you see the policies of Blair and Brown?

Public debt and borrowing are so high, for the reason we spent it. If that's a cut in social spending, then God knows where a splurge would leave us.
 
Funnily enough I still remember the day when they took that milk away from us. I used to look forward to that milk!
 
I have an idea, as long as were are cutting welfare programs how about we cut the corporate welfare.

Let's have real capitalism and take away all the government handouts, tax breaks and bail outs for corporations.

Make them all compete on their own merits and nothing else. If they succeed great, if they don't well then too bad. Doesn't matter how big they are, what industry they are, nothing, sink or swim on your own.
 
LOL Typical of a government that pushes an ideology at all costs irrespective of actual need. I think I remember reading there was a surplus of places where there were "free schools". Which are privately run but funded by the state.
 
Oh we can't do that. Capitalists can only operate where there are low taxes and government kickbacks.

Both things involve staying in. so its fair to say he stays in sometimes, OR has got a lot of spare money, which as he's a Thatcher lover, may also be true.
 
Because I own a High End gaming rig I'm a Tory? I've never voted Tory. Never seen the appeal. Pre Iraq I probably would have been Labour, but I was Lib Dem, until Clegg came into power. In the London Mayoral elections I voted independent.

I don't vote based on what my family do, (mostly Labour). I vote when it makes sense to me.

Just like I don't hate Thatcher without knowing why.
 
I've been out since 7am, I just got in 20 mins ago. Why am I not allowed to enjoy a few games or sit on my ass at home in the evenings on a weekday? Lol... Coming from a guy on an internet forum, "the staying in" part is ridiculous.

I'm not objective, I look at things from an objective stance, the two are not intertwined. Just because I'm not huffing and puffng about Thatcher being dead does not mean I'm apathetic in any way, I'm just better at keeping my emotions and check, I let logic and reason do the talking for me instead of "wa hayyy the witch is dead street partay".



I'm aware and I have seen the arguments, but like I've already stated, even though I'm not a fan of Thatcher the arguments for in favour have been better. I've also noticed a trend where a lot of 20 year olds hate Thatcher because it's fashionable coming out with weak excuses, like they are experts in the matter.

For someone to say I don't care about Politics is lol... I've been very political from a young age, but I don't huff and puff away on an online forum.

I was part of the Enfield Youth Council.
I was a junior Lib Dem Member.
I was chairman of the Student council (I did it for lols, but I won).
I was prominent in the NUS.

I have family members who are Labour councillors, and one who has run for an MP and I have helped with their campaigns.

Please don't tell me I don't care about Politics just because I don't mention everything about my daily life.

I find the reactions of the Anti Thatcher group absurd, that's why I'm pushing, because the reaction to my comments shouldn't be so absurd.

I find it weak that so many people are celebrating the death of an 87 year old woman who can't defend herself. Worse yet they think it's justified like she's some mass murdering pedo war criminal.

MOST, not all, are just jumping on the Anti Thatcher bandwagon, and A LOT of the support is from youngsters who don't even know why they hate her.
 
Of course your allowed, however your initial statement asked how would people know how much you stay in.

If you own a highend gaming rig, you more likely to use it, no?
 
Personally I find it sad that her wishes to not have a state funeral were ignored. She, like everyone deserved a private dignified send-off, without it being hijacked for political ends, by either end of the political spectrum.

However if you want to argue politics, Thatcher often compared her views to Classical liberalism -

''It shares a number of beliefs with other belief systems belonging to liberalism, advocating civil liberties and political freedom, limited government, rule of law, and belief in free market''

If you actually respect her views, then you should also respect the lawful protests, that her State (against her wishes) Funeral has provoked.
 
Not necessarily, again you are stereotyping. I haven't gamed much, and most of it AFK gaming, steam says I've games 9.4 hours in the past two weeks.

I high have a high end home cinema system with standing floor speakers and a DTS system too. But I only watch movies on that. It has been collecting dust since I watched Argo. That's it. I own a 360/ps3 also they never get touched.

Just because I own a high end gaming system, and do enjoy games doesn't mean I don't go out. I pre ordered BioShock Infinite, got it on the night it came out, and since release I've only played 7 hours.

Word of advise, never assume.

Thats still a full day out of 14 days, either way Words of advise, dont use the same user name or link to other website profiles within forums, ID theft / data mining is amazingly easy that way.
