We just got a ML500. The front brakes have a smell when they heat up & they do heat up. There is black dust all over the rims. I checked the brake fluid max we have had it for a 1.5 months.
Could it be something simple ??
Did the dealer put cheap brakes on it ?
Or The fluid needs to be flushed?
Is there a pump that's bad?
Or the wrong fluid.
I don't want to have to put new brakes on it every other month.
It only seems to be the front.

Benz brake pads are traditionally on the soft-side to better be able to handle the high-speed braking that Germans require on their Autobahn highways. That's why you'll see a lot of Mercedes (as well as the other German automakers' vehicles) with front rims covered in brake dust.

But if you have a burning smell from the front brakes, I would agree with the above statement and check for sticking brake calipers.
