MMA should add an "Overtime" Round for super close matches?

In UFC 93, there were 2 split decisions that really could have gone either way. I think Marcus Davis deserved his win over Chris Lytle, but the Franklin-Henderson fight was too close to call for me.

Who else thinks that for the closest matches - especially the ones that end in split decision - should go an extra (perhaps 3 minute) round to solidify a decision victory. I really hate split decisions. I don't think a fighter needs to put a loss on his record if he fought just as well as the other guy.

Problem: If Rich won the over time then the score cards would have been tied. Then what, another over time. Doesn't make much sense to me. The fighters go in to the fights knowing exactly the amount of time they have to work. I they can not get it done in that amount of time then they have no one to blame for the loss but themselves.

I would have love to seen that fight go five rounds but an over time is not the answer. Damn Good fight though. I told every one it was going to be but man I did not think it was going to be that good.

no, then we will have even worst juding, and if anything the # of matches that end in draws will sky rocket, bc if u add one more round to either a 3 or 5 round fight its even #s then, and the likely hood of draws will go up too, and just bc there is one more round of fighting it dose not mean judges will have any better outcomes, i remember watching K1 and Bada Hari was fighting Hong Man Choi, that fight was clearly Bada Haris but to get more action out of it the judges sent it into the extra period, i think that u just have to live with the judges picks or possibly get some kind of school to train mma judges

I completely agree with you. If an "overtime round" had been called, surely Franklin could have demolish Henderson.
