Any Christian or Buddhist here, what are your personal views on technological advancement? Good, bad?

Our communication advances are the BOMB! We are way more cooler than when I was younger. Companies are making millions/Billions with every member of the household having a cell phone and all the devices that keep up in contact with each other, music, tv just to name a few.

I think it is great, and we are spending more money on entertainment than ever before.

Good for us... as long as it doesn't get too much more 1984ish.
Fat chance that won't happen.
Bad for the planet, but makes our life a bit easier.

Buddhist.

Good and bad.

Modern dentistry, for example, is wonderful
Modern weaponry is appalling.

I certainly don't favour dropping all technology and going back to some mythical agrarian paradise.

Good: Buddhist.

See the following short discourse, often known as the Buddha's Charter on Free Inquiry: The Kaalaama Sutta.

Note the premises for accepting something are that they lead to welfare & happiness of oneself and / or others.

Another premise that separates the wise from fools though, is that the thing in question should lead to long term welfare, as well as short term benefit.

I think the Christian view, as espoused by Western nations, would appear to be concurrent with this.

Best Wishes,

Goodfella
