MOV was removed from UPS but...........?

I unintentionally interchanged the phases on my UPS, (i made a three phase connection but turned the switch to single phase) and all of a sudden the UPS got blown, i opened it up and realised that a component (looks more like an MOV) has been destroyed, written on the component is ZNR V14471U and where its mounted on the board is written MV907/MV907A, i removed it and powered the UPS, i heard a huge sound and a spark (something blown) just like when the faulty 'MOV' had not been removed, so its like with or without the 'MOV' a spark (something blows) is observed as soon as you power the UPS, lest i forget it blows the fuse of the power cable as well

1. what might be causing this
