fuel economic? I have a 1996 Jeep Cherokee 4x4 and am told that my car "should" get 17 mpg city and 20 mpg highway.
What I would like to know is what is the likely hood that my Jeep is now less fuel economic than before? The car runs great, but it just doesn't feel like it's getting the type of miles it says it should be getting. IE, 400 miles per tank of fuel. It feels like maybe it's just over half that. So maybe around 230, 250 miles a tank.
But basically I would like to know if this is possible, how much has it decreased since '96. Dropping a few miles in economy per month or year or so. Is there anything I could do to reverse or solve the problem? Both short or long term effective techniques. Why would the economy be low? Such as could certain maintenance rituals have been neglected or could they have been the enemy? Could it be age itself? I just don't know, the car is relatively new to me, I got it this past Christmas.
I am going on a 330 mile trip soon, maybe twice in this month alone to the destination and back, and need to know how much money I should put aside for fuel prices alone with the prices being what they are.
Anything anyone could help me with about information would be greatly appreciated.
