...vents do not shoot any air at all, why? My 1980 malibu air vents for the dash and feet do not work. When i turn on my heater/defroster, it only works from the defroster vents for the windsheild but the regular dash vents do not throw out any air, what is the problem?

if it has a sideways slider to select def, htr, dash, etc. , chances are the inner wire has come off the loop hook at the end or is simply broken. If you have a dial knob for this, I'm not quite sure how it works. At any rate, look under the dash and follow the cable (wire runs inside it), you should see where it selects which way the air flows. If you can change airflow by moving where the cable hooks in, then it's a broken inner cable (or unhooked)

check some of your vaccuum hoses, may be dry rotted. sometimes that is all it takes. maybe debri in vents such as leaves, pine straw or small sticks causing blockage.

If the air doesn't change at all from the defrost regardless of where you have the control then it is the control cable. There is a cable with a circle on the end that connects on the rear of the heater control assembly. If you take it out and move the control you will see the cable, if it is connected and moving at the control end then follow it to the other end and check to see if it is secured if it is OK too then the door inside the plumbing isn't moving. If the air does stop blowing from the defrost when you move the lever but doesn't come out the vents or floor then you have a blockage in the plumbing, mice build nest and such but if that was what it is you should hear debris blowing with the air on high.

Most likely the solenoid that operates the vent functions is defective.
