My dog is a Basset Fauve De Bretange and over the years he has gotten REALLY fat. One reason is he cant be let off the lead 2 we usually dont have time to walk him 3 he grabs food of the counter like a few weeks ago he ate a whole roast chicken...I usually jog him round the garden but that isnt helping. And also he seems quite paranoid because he keeps itching his back. To make matters worse we have a little Lab puppy which is needy. Do you know how to get him thin once again?
Oh yeah and he cant be let off cos he catches a sent and doesnt come back for 3hours... we have trouble supervising him because of our new puppy and walking him... i live near donnington castle so do you think i could find some time and jog him up there?

train him to use a tred mill. when you have trained him do it for 1 hour a day and take him for a walk because they enjoy it.

Supervise him so he doesn't get food he shouldn't have and walk him more. Or get a tread mill and train him to use it.

every dog needs exercise, its all part and parcel of owning a dog, reduce his food intake and increase his walk. a jog around the garden is not good enough. he needs to stretch muscles and tendons etc.
if he keeps itching his back maybe he has mites or fleas.
ask your vet to check him over

if your having problems with recalls, why not start a training class with him, they will show you how to work with him, one thing about dogs is that they love to learn and explore new things, its what keeps them going

<<<<it took me 8 months to work with him for him to acknowledge what was required for recalls, its a slow process but worth it
