My alt codes are different. How do I fix it?

All of the sites that I have gone on say that pi is Alt+227 but when I type that it comes up as Ò. The same thing happens with a lot of others. How do I fix this?
 
It depends on your font. Times New Roman and Calibri give me pi when I use Alt+960. I got that number from this page, although it's not listed among the alt codes, I got it from the character codes. http://www.theworldofstuff.com/characters/

Also if you're using windows, go Start > Run > "Charmap" [enter] Choose your font and you can find the characters available to you.
 
Alt+227 for mine is n. Go to Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Character Map and there is the biggest list you will ever see.
