mine, is this something I need to ask him to do?
When did you meet your husband/partners parents?
We are older, he is 44 and Im 36, and we have a history together,
 
Why should he ask, why don't you sort it out.
If he objects, then you have a problem to post.
 
Maybe you should ask him to meet yours instead of waiting for him to ask?
You never said how long the two of you have been dating or how old you are.
Maybe he doesn't feel comfortable meeting them yet, or is waiting for you to ask him to meet them.
Talk to him about it.
