My Car runs, yet it really whines?

Now i know that this could be many things but let me tell you what i've done! So i had a bad starter and had it tested and all, so i got a new starter from autozone. Well the car is an automatic transmission. I've noticed this whine sound when i replaced the starter. This might just be because that's how they're supposed to sound, but it's loud and noticable when i even push the pedal down(even in park). It only happens when i press the pedal.... the car drives ok, but when i go to put it into gear, it takes a second and then it pulls into gear. It feels like when i'm driving that the tranny isn't switching over to the next gear(like i'd be stuck into first gear). However, when i am driving my 91' Plymouth Acclaim LX it will get into higher speeds with no problem. I really don't know where to turn on this one friends, so help if you could! Thanks....

Try flushing the transmission fluid, or your torque convertor may be loose. The whine could be coming from your power steering pump though(check the fluid level --It takes ATF as well--). Or a pulley could be causing the whine.
