My car stereo wont recognize my ipod! help!?

i have a car stereo with a auxiliary port for my ipod, and for some reason when i plug my ipod up to the stereo, and press the SRC button to change it to AUX, it doesnt recognize it and AUX doesnt show up. its never done this before. what's wrong?

I have had same problem with both ipod and Samsung Galaxy. My Galaxy however was recognised but now isnot. But i have didcovered that if my phone is on charge then the car does recognise it. I have a feeling i may have altered asetting by installing an app. The main problem with this being. When on charge is it causes interfierence through speakers. I know something has changed as the diffrence when not on charge was great.

I have a feeling its a setting in phone that can be changed.
