my disk drive has suddenly stopped reading dvd roms but can still read cd roms?

i jus went onto my pc now to play sims and i have noticed it wont read any of my sims, i have tried normal cd rom games and it works fine, but no dvd roms work.
can someone help please
i have tried updaing drivers, uninstalling then reinstalling, i have tried system restore, i have tried messing with the registry.
i have also looked at properties and it says the drive is a cd-rom , so does this mean it is will not read dvd -rom? however 3 days ago it was working with all the sims games which are dvd rom

check the dvd type that the drive accepts either + or -. If thats not the case try upgrading or reinstalling the cd/dvd drivers. hope this helps
