My DVD case from the library is empty. Am I going to be charged?

I got several DVDs from the library, most of which have to be unlocked with that special magnet unlocker thingy. This was one of them, so I'm pretty sure it was locked when it was on the shelf (I unlocked it after scanning it).

A day later, after watching the other movies, I go to open this one and it's empty. Now I'm a mix of angry and confused. Am I going to be charged for a "missing" DVD? Suddenly I have all these doubts: did I open it previously? Did I pull the DVD out and place it somewhere random? Why on earth would I do that, I never do that.

I've dealt with car mechanics who were in the wrong, but they will absolutely deny everything and anything. Will librarians do this? Will I be forced to buy a new one? I'm kind of distraught in a weird way. Why should I pay for someone else's mistake?! I've searched my entire room, my whole place, the backpack (I bike to the library), and I don't see any DVDs. I have all my other DVDs, though, and there's no doubled-up DVDs in those cases.

I just ... I'm kind of a George McFly and I hate confrontations, especially with something like this where you're pretty much automatically to blame. What should I do??

Take the DVD case back and tell them straight up you never got the DVD and you just barley opened the case more then likely they will track down the movie in another branch
