My DVD drive on my laptop recently stopped working. The green led light doesn't turn on anymore and will not open unless I force it open. After forcing it open, I will put in a DVD and nothing happens. What should I do?

Run the Fixit or delete the upper and lower filters manually.

If it still doesn't work go to Device Manager and uninstall it and reboot.

logic is required here
1. if it wont open, its not going to be able to read disks,
2. the solution is if its broke you'll need a new one

replace the DVD drive. You can take it to best buy or compusa or some other megastore and they can do it or your local computer store (if any of those exist anymore).

Or you can just have a friend who knows what he is doing do it for you. Or do it yourself if you know what your doing.

Its a little harder on a laptop than desktop, but pretty easy either way. Just make sure that you get the correct drive.

You could try taking the securing screw out (you might have to remove a panel underneath) then slide it in and out a few times. contacts might just be bad.

Go Start / Control Panel / System. In System window click on Device Manager. In Device Manager Properties window open CD/DVD-ROM properties windows. You will find here ,what' s wrong:hardware or software problem.
