My engine makes a loud grinding sound--What's wrong with my 1991 Honda Civic?

My car sounds very loud when it runs lately. It didn't happen all of a sudden, but more slowly over time. When I look under the hood, it's coming from the right side. The belts look good...seems like it might be one of the pulleys in there. Do the bearings go bad? If that's what it is, how much would it cost to repair?

I haven't been driving my car because I don't want it to break down but I gotta deal with this soon. Just wondering what you think it might be and how much it will probably cost. Any additional things to look for, myself, would be appreciated.

Thanks!
The noise gets louder as I accelerate. Engine oil (changed recently) and other fluids are good. No visible problems.

Also, every once in a while the belt squeaks when I start the engine.

Loosen the tension on the alternator belt, move belt of of place and spin freely with your hand. You may feel the source of the grinding if you think it may be coming from that side of the car. It's possible you have the only Honda Civic with worn alternator bearings.

Oil level good in the engine?
