The car was not there we we got there. he didnt know it was there until after he hit the car.
the car was parked behind the truck about 10 ft away but it was not parked in a parking space.
The guy wants $700 from my grandpa when the repairs cost about 500.
but my grandpa refuses to pay him the $700

He was trying avoid getting his insurance involved... but now he sees no other choice.

Yes my grandpa knows it is his fault. i was just wondering though.
And my grandpa doesnt mind paying for the damages but that guys wants $200 extra for the "inconvenience". my grandpa wanted to avoid getting his insurance involve because the guy has not insurance, but that guy leaves him no other choice. plus if my grandpa was to call his insurance all he needs to pay is $250 and the insurance pays the rest...
my grandpa tried to be faith and reason with him.....
The guy took his car in to a shop to get an estimate.
my cousin is a manager of another auto Body shop and said the cost would be no more then 500. and he offered to do it for less but the guy doesnt want to have his car fixed where my cousin works

None of that matters. The car was parked and your grandfather ran into it. He is responsible for the damage.

You need to learn to be a responsible adult and not try to weasel out of what is your responsibility. I hope you aren't getting really bad examples of what is proper social interaction. My generation and following ones have learned terrible habits of blaming others for what they cause.

irregardless of where the other car was parked the person who hits a stationary object with his vehicle is at fault. sorry

Surely if the other guy has no insurance, he is on the road illegally?

If I was your grandpa and that was the case, I would tell him to get lost, you're not paying him anything at all.

It is the driver's responsibility to make sure there are no cars behind him when backing up.

well it is your granps's fault because that is his problem to know if there is a car there or not but if he was there, and he was parked illigally then your gandpa could threaten him that he will take him to court...

THE ONLY PICTURES YOU HAVE is this car. So where is the collision picture of the car and your grandfather's truck? You have the camera why not used it in times of the real situation.

IT IS IMPOSSIBLE the car wasn't there when your grandpa drove in and hit it. What the car came from a different time zone from the past and re-appeared suddenly in that spot? I guess your grandpa is already TOO OLD DRIVING a truck or even a car. NO OFFENSE. Is he wearing an eyeglasses at the time of the accident? He didn't know because he is already old and his reflexes is not that of a 25 year old teenager anymore. What do you expect he is already a grand father.

Why would we even believe your own estimate of the metres and distance of the car and the truck when we are not even there. The car could be telling us the truth or you but we are not the investigator of the case so why not asked the police about this. WHY NOT SETTLE THE AMOUNT BETWEEN TWO PARTIES or have someone settle it for them like the insurance company.
