My husband is very interested in joinning the Coast Guard but he called yesterday and he left a message (no call back this morning). He called later in the day and a recruter answered, my husband started off by saying "Hello, my name is ........ I want information on how to join the Coast guard" and the recuter chuckled and proceeded to ask questions. WHY??? He also said that he was going to send him information by email today (no email yet) so my husband called back and another mean recuter answered and almost blew him off!~ why????

He has 1yr technical college, 13 college hours (very few) and has only worked as a security guard for 3yrs. He was never good at math so he might fail the test.. Does he not have any chances???
:(

If they don't send anything tomorrow, does it mean they are sooo not interested?
He is 5'7 180lbs very muscular but he called, they didn't actually see him.
He is 23yrs old

Well, you didn't say how old he is so my intuition says maybe he is too old to join? There is a cutoff, I just am not sure what it is...but I believe around 25. Maybe they are just weirdos too, you never know.

Well, to start with, how many kids do you guys have? To enlist, you can't have more than two dependents (spouse and ONE kid). Does he have ANY brushes with the law? Does he have a high-school diploma?

The big thing is that he admitted to being bad at math... and if you don't score VERY well on the ASVAB, you stand very little chance of getting in.

Also, right now the Coast Guard has a hiring freeze - we aren't signing ANY active duty contracts. As of October 2010, instead of a normal year of about 5000 new recruits, we are only going to be enlisting about 1200... which means that our minimum ASVAB score (which is the highest of all the services right now) will be skyrocketing. So if your hubby can't score at least an 80 on the test, he won't get in.

So unless he seems like a stellar candidate, why bother sending him anything?

His best bet is to fill out the online form at http://www.gocoastguard.com to get info. The Recruiters are pretty testy right now since they've just had their missions erased.

Good luck!
