my laptop screen doesn't work properly?

my laptop screen works as i can see whats on it in certain light but can't in normal light, at the moment we have it plugged into a monitor but that kind of makes having a laptop pointless. i believe there is something wrong with the back light but not sure, i took apart the screen half today and pushed in the wire that leads into the screen. it did not work, is the back light wire inside the actual laptop (under the keyboard)?

also sometimes the screen will come on but then go off if you tilt the screen half.

please help.
