My new iPod touch 4g won't sync with the computer? It recognizes it as an iPhone!?

Merry Christmas! So I got an iPod touch for Christmas this year. When I opened it and turned it on, the little picture of iTunes and the computer usb cord came up. I plugged it into my PC but nothing happened. We already have my dad's other iPod hooked up to the computer, so I am wondering if that was the problem. I then unplugged the iPod and held down the home button while plugging it in and a screen came up that said it was an iPhone that needed to be restored. Now I am really confused and am wondering how to fix this. The pop up screen that is supposed to come up where I can name my iPod and stuff has never come up and I really need it to. How can I fix this and what will I need to do after I fix this to set up my iPod? I already tried getting the new version of iTunes.
 
I just got a new Ipod too, and it said it needed to be restored even though I plugged it in. I just unplugged it and plugged it back in and now it works. Although, my name you Ipod thing came up fine. My suggestion would be to call apple or try it on another computer.
