My Nokia 5800d-1 is locked to vodafone, if i enter the wrong code too many...

...times what would happen? I've heard that if you enter the wrong unlocking code three times the phone will say 'code error' and after the third time will permanently lock itself. Does this mean it will become barred/blocked and not be able to work on any network or that it will be permanently locked to the network that i am currently with, vodafone? Thanks in advance fr answering
