My Plug and Play DVD writer won't work?

I plug it in and every time it says it can't install. I went to Device Manager and this is what it says:

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

I updated the driver software on DM, but it says it's up to date.
