My Windows 7 Laptop isn't recognising any dvd's or cd's that I put in. Please

helppp!? My PC isn't recognising any CD's or DVD's when I put them in the drive.
I have tried going on 'my computer' but there is nothing.
The little disk symbol doesn't show up on the cursor when a CD/DVD is inserted. I don't know what to do.
Please help meeeeeee?
