name for a device that dishes out powers in a superhero story?

I'm writing a superhero story and the protagonist and the antagonists get there powers from a device that gives of massive amounts of a special type of radiation that mutates people into super powered freaks and basically i need a cool name for that device and the radiation it gives off.

Honestly, I'd just call it like an alien device that gives off radiation.
