I read this somewhere in the 1990s and as far as I remember, I believe it was in three or two instalments. The lead character (male) is a part of a triplet (or clones, I'm not sure). One is in Mars minding his own business, the other is in Earth running away from someone or chasing someone, and the third one seems to be hanging around the moon and is profoundly evil.
One scene stayed in my head was when the evil triplet (or clone) used a nursery classroom as a hostage (via lowering the room temperature and almost freezing kids to death).
