This kid and i both in math class sitting and talking while the professor is going on about something and somehow a tattoo conversation starts. He tells me he has a swastika tattoo and i didn't believe it and he lifted his shirt in the back and he actually has a nazi's swastika tattoo and it's about 3-4 long. He told me he got that tattoo as a joke, not to offend anyone. But seriously, how do you get a swastika tattoo as a joke and i'm jewish but i didn't say anything, should i say something, what you think of getting a swastika tattoo as a joke?

No joke. The swastika is an offensive symbol and its display is banned in many countries. People often play down their far right wing affiliations when confronted with them. It's basically an attempt to belittle others who may be offended. Hence telling you the swastika tattoo is a joke.

Report him.

Well does he mean it to be a Nazi Swastika? The Swastika predates the Nazi's by five thousand years. And it was never a symbol for what they turned it into.

Ask him in private about it if you want to learn more.

I totally agree with you, how anyone can think a symbol which represents a party which was responsible for mass genocide and a total death count worldwide of 50+ million people is beyond belief.

As a Brit where the death toll of both military and civilian people accounted for nearly half a million deaths, I also fail to see how this can be seen as a joke in any way.

I for one would have been deeply offended and disgusted, that he has the tattoo is bad enough but to show it to children and suggest it is in any way funny, I believe seriously calls into question whether he is someone who is suitable to have influence over children..

What you should do is difficult to know, perhaps tell your parents, who could then decide whether or not to take this matter up with the school is probably the best advice I can give.

You never get a tattoo as a joke. If it WAS a joke he should have it removed. It would be a bit different if it was the reverse of a swastika. I think that sign was a very old symbol in Christianity.
