My main character in my book needs a name. I am usually good at finding one but I need something unique. Something that strikes fear in his enemies and gives courage to his men. I would prefer for his name to mean something about war or courage. It must also be a real name. It would be great if there is a non-anglicized version and an anglicized version of the name.

Well, have you checked baby name sites? Check several different ones and see if there's a difference of meaning in each. Also, what kind of name would you like? Gaelic? Welsh? Japanese? There are so many possibilities!

But yes, check baby name sites. And also, for names, such names can be a translation of another. For instance, my name which is Jennifer is another version of Guinevere, as in, King Arthur's wife who had a love affair with Lancelot. (Great, I'm another name of a forbidden lover or a whore. Yay! Ha, ha.)

But yes, just use baby site names, even wikipedia can help you find the root of the name. Just search a random name, a stem or root of one planet can lead you to an even more perfect or beautiful one.

And by the way, maybe you can even use Greek or Latin words to make a name yourself.

Good luck and happy writing!

I usually pick names based on looks and personality. Ex: A nice girl who likes to go shopping would need a softer name like Anne. But a hard, edgy girl that loves sports and fights with teachers a lot would have a name more like Gretchen or Vicki.
So, I'll try to do this the best I can. I will give names of what I think goes with each set of features:
*Hair/eye* color:
Black/blue: Jay
Black/brown: Dakota
Black/green: Jessi
Blond/blue: Zack
Blond/brown: Quintin
Blond/green: Peter
Red/blue: Riley
Red/brown: Napoleon (hey, i'm just writing the first name that comes to mind.)
Red/green: Matt
Brown/blue: Dan
Brown/brown: Henry
Brown/green: Oliver

Look, I don't know about the whole "a name that strikes fear into his enemies, but encourages his men." A name can only do so much.
Good Luck! :)

This site is great for names - it has a generator, and it also has a search function. :) I use it when I write.
