The start up sound on my iMac isn't working all of a sudden. The other sounds are working fine. I heard that if you hear the sound of breaking glass that there is a problem, but I'm not hearing that either. Is anyone familiar with this problem. Any solutions? Thanks!

This should never happen - apple is very particular about this - you are not supposed to be able to turn it off. (I would love to find a way to turn mine off.) If this is happening to you, you probably have a logic board that's about to die, so I would suggest making frequent backups and make an appointment with an apple genius in an apple store (I'm pretty sure it's free) to figure out what to do about it.
