I am trying to make a 'best bang for your buck' sound system for my party house next year. My goals are to have a loud system with good bass that cover two large rooms. Quality doesn't have to be amazing, but I do want it to be fairly good. I suppose I am looking for medium level sound quality from an audiophile's perspective.
I found a pair Cerwin Vega LS-12 3-way speakers for ~$200. They are 300 watt speakers, having trouble finding their RMS power rating though. Have done a lot of research on these and feel this is a good buy.
My problem is that I do not know what kind of receiver/pre-amp or amplifier I should start looking into.
I found a Harmon Kardon AVR 445 home theater receiver on craigslist and I truly don't know if this is something I'll need or not. This receiver pushes ~65 watts per channel. I know I'll need an amp to get the full effect out of my Cerwin Vega's, but would this type of receiver work for what I am trying to do? The seller wants $200 for the unit, which is in exceptional condition.
If anyone can advise me as to what type of receiver and what type of amp I should get as well as whether the above receiver is a good buy, it would be much appreciated!
P.S. I am looking to spend under $800, but still get good sound quality and deliver clean power to my speakers. Thanks again!
