I was talking with my brother the other day and he mentioned this movie he saw several years ago. It was chinese, set during the world war 2 era. The most I can remember him telling me about it is that a man that the chinese lead was friends with during the war accidentally killed the guys son with his automobile. The son always took up for his older deaf sister and was her best and only friend. Now the older sister is in labor and the only doctor they could find was one that hadn't eaten in several days, so they gave him rice balls and water. Since the rice balls expanded in his stomach it made him fall asleep and the girl ended up dying after giving birth. That's really all I can remember. Does that ring any bells for anyone? I was hoping to find it so I can rent it and watch it to see what it was like. He can't remember all of it seeing as he hadn't seen it all the way through and cannot remember the title. He is certain it was chinese, with english subtitles.
