needs, Plz Help? Hi I am originally from Brooklyn New York. I lived there for over 20 years. Then I moved to Phoenix Arizona and I have been living there for 6 years now. To make a long story short, the summers here in Phoenix Arizona are brutal. They are extremely hot even with the low humidity and I really can't stand it anymore. That is why I have been thinking a lot about California expecially for the summer. I like San Diego's type of weather. I prefer sunny weather with highs in the upper 70's to low 80's in the Summer months. Anything above that for me would be too hot. I have been searching the different areas of California trying to see which one would be best for me. I prefer to be in Southern California as opposed to anything higher than L.A. I need a lot of help and information with details about the areas or the cities that I narrowed my search down to. The following cities are the ones that I narrowed my search down to: West Hollywood, Costa Mesa, Culver City, Horton Plaza in San Diego, Gaslamp Quarter in San Diego, Hillcrest in San Diego and there might be other areas as well and that's why I need your help with all the details. I have never been to California but their weather is really great but I do know it can be expensive and that could be a problem.
Ok let me tell you briefly what I am looking for in a city especially since I am from Brooklyn New York. #1 thing for me is that the city has to be very very walkable. I prefer where all the shops are within walking distance. I love when the supermarkets are a couple of blocks from home like they were in Brooklyn. I love when all the shops and stores are one street after another. That is why I went to the walkability site and I picked the top cities in California that according to them are walkable. However I want real facts about these numbers by the natives living there. I don't drive and that is why I need a city that is walkable to anywhere and where the public transportation is 24 hours a day with a bus or train every 10 minutes like it was in Brooklyn.
Another thing very important to me is that the city is fairly new with newer development and newer apartments and houses and newer shops and stores. I know that a lot of areas in California can tend to be old and I don't want to be staying in those areas.
The ocean is not important to me at all since I don't swim and it just doesn't appeal to me. So the farther away from the ocean that I am the better.
Another important thing is that the area has to be very safe and preferrably affordable. By Affordable is it possible to get a rental say for 1150 or less for 2 bedrooms?
Now lets get down to the important questions and please answer them one by one for me:
1)From the cities listed above from my narrowed search, which one is the most affordable and most safe?? Are there any other cities not listed above that are very affordable and safe and have the weather that I looking for in the summer with shops and stores that are fairly new and close by?
2)Which city above is most walkable and how close are the shops and what type of shops are around there. Is it possible to walk to the supermarket and other stores? That is my number 1 preference.
3)Which city has the best transportation and very accessible to anywhere?
4)Which city from above is least likely to get hit by an earthquake or are they all susceptible to one because I know that California has a lot of earthquakes and we don't have earthquakes in New York or Arizona. I need to find a city that is safe from Earthquakes.
5)From the cities above which city would have the newer housing and newer shops and is there any other city not listed that is affordable and safe and walkable that has newer housing and shops.
6)Which city tends to stay open almost 24 hours a day or open till late every night because I like cities that don't sleep.
7)I do hate congestion and that is why I want to avoid L.A.
8)Which city above is safe from wildfires?
9)I want the city to be far away from pine trees and forests. I don't like that sort of stuff and I am not into camping or hiking.
10)Which city has the least amount of bugs like bees, scorpions, fly's and rats etc etc etc.
Let me know the details
So as a result from the cities that I listed above, which one would meet most if not all my needs mentioned above in your view?? Is there any other city not listed that can meet my needs as well?
Please give me all the details and if you can provide me with your email address so we can discuss this further that would be helpful. I need all the help that I can get before May of 2012 where it begins to get hot again here in Phoenix Arizona. I don't like Arizona as well because it isn't walkable at all. Everything is far away from each other and the bus transportation is terrible here. Thank you very much.
