Need help with car problem (2004 Mazda Tribute)?

Our 2004 Mazda Tribute seems to have a problem with accelerating. If you punch the gas pedal or try to accelerate too fast the V6 seems to catch and it more or less stalls (not exactly stalls as it is a Auto trans). It just will not accelerate to a faster speed very quickly without that catch. Maybe after 15-30 seconds it will the catch and accelerate, but obviously this is a problem.

Also the engine does rev and the RPMS do rise but the vehicle just does not catch that acceleration, kind of like sitting still and revving the engine. I am not mechanically inclined so I can't just go looking all around in the engine and hope to find a problem or not. Knowing the little bit I do know, it sounds like the transmission to me. Could it also have to do with the fuel line and it being clogged up or something? I'd like someone with more knowledge than I to give a little bit of help. Will add more information if needed. Thanks.

Always helps to know the mileage but a few possibilities could be: It isn't likely to be fuel related based on your statement that the engine does rev when pressing the gas. That's an indication that fuel is getting to the engine but with the delay in acceleration you describe it seems to point to either an issue with the transmission or torque converter. Neither is something that the average driver could repair at home unless its nothing more than a low fluid level in the transmission. You have already checked that... right?
