I heard a little rumor that because the company Motorex provided crash testing for the R33 Skyline and not the R32 or R34, that because of this, the R33 is 100% legal to import to the US. Only if it's brought up to DOT specs and emission standards. Once this happens, you can go right to your local DMV and get it registered and own the car legally.

Does anyone have any information regarding whether or not this is true? And also, is there any possibility for maybe an exemption for someone who is serving in the military? I'd really do just about anything to own my own Skyline, except pay stupid money for it.

Thanks guys

Also, I live in Chicago Illinois, USA if that helps for anything.

What you heard...is TRUE. But you will still pay stupid money for it. Conversion ain't cheap. Maybe I should've said retarded money because it wouldn't be much cheaper than a new car that whoops it when all is said and done.

Sometimes service members can sneak a car in from overseas on an exemption (as you said) but the process is probably a p.i.t.a.
