Why do so many people subscribe to the vague and usually erroneous prophecies of people like Nostradamus, Jeanne Dixon, Edgar Cayce, and others that make all the "urban legends" lists?
Why not read the most dramatic prophecies of all time - over 600 of them contained in a perennial bestseller known as the Bible?
And, guess what? They've all been fulfilled to date! And there's another 300 or so still on the horizon!

Biblical "prophecies" are just as vague as those of the people you name.

It's easy to interpret prophecies to fit events that have already happened.

Those who hold to biblical prophecy are just as sad as those who hold with other prophecy.

I wouldn't call them prophecy. only prophets can receive prophecy. prophecy means the message you receive from God. these are predictions, these people are not prophets they are interpreters and psychics

While I don't believe in any of them, Nostradamus and Cayce are a lot more specific than the Bible.

"Wars and rumors of wars" -- gee, that rules out about one year out of the last two thousand. At least Nostradamus wrote "Hisler", or whatever, which almost sounds like "Hitler."

I think the fundie cults, JWs and SDAs are the ones who are so obsessed with predicting the end times. They like twisting Scriptures to support their prophecies.

Fundies, JWs and SDAs are false christians. A lot of them are nutjobs. By fundies I mean Evangelicals, Born-again cults and Episcopalians.

I believe people like predictability. Knowing what could happen in their future is something they feel they can expect.

The bible prophecies are no more accurate or true than Nostradamus, Dixon or flipping a coin.

I haven't seen any biblical prophecies fulfilled myself, just the ones that were in the bible, and since I discredit the bible, because it was written by man, then I don't accept those. Even those prophecies were vague and like some sort of puzzle it seems.

Nostradamus is the only one I know of that you mentioned since I don't go into prophecies. But I'm not really sure any of those are hot topics lately. Except the occasional history channel show. In that case cheese making is a hot topic as well.

Actually, I completely agree. You can thank American public education for indoctrinating secularism into the minds of millions.

People are willing to buy into some random "prophet" just because the TV told them to, but they'll look the other way whenever bible prophecy is mentioned.

Edit - @TB2: Denial isn't just a river in Africa.
