Okay outdoors-men (and ladies), can you identify this bird?

I saw one of these in the mid 90's and just now saw another one. I am in south west Alabama. Its a large bird with a long forked tail. It has a longer wingspan than a buzzard. it is definitely not an eagle. It soars like an eagle or buzzard, and can fly very fast.
I don't have a clue?
Do you?
I suppose it is possibly a Red Kite or Swallow tailed Kite. But this is a very big bird. The fork in the tail is very pronounced. It almost looks like 2 tails.
I guess I'll have to believe it was a Kite. These birds look much bigger in real life as opposed to a picture.

It has to be a Red Kite. Well, it don't have to be, but you know what I mean. Here is a photo of the Red Kite- see if this could be it.

maybe a tern? some of them have pretty big wing spans.
