Today’s old school track of the day is “Wanna Be a Baller” by Lil’ Troy. This song, which was released in 1998, was off of the album entitled “Sittin’ Fat Down South” — which sold nearly two million copies. “Wanna Be a Baller” features Lil’ Wil, H.A.W.K., Fat Pat, Yungstar and Big T and was produced by Bruce Rhodes AKA Grim.
Unfortunately for Southern Hip Hop fans, this song will never be duplicated — literally. Fat Pat, a Houston born rapper, was murdered in 1998. H.A.W.K., also from Houston, was murdered in 2006.
Fat Pat’s memorable line in the song is: “Big ballin’, smashin, makin’ my ends — smokin big killa gettin’ high in the Benz.” H.A.W.K’s memorable line is: “I hit the highway, everything’s my way, I parlay everyday all day.”
